Luam is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at University of Auckland and is in the process of submitting her thesis. Her current research focuses on exploring the predictors of childhood injuries in New Zealand using a life-course approach from the Growing Up in New Zealand longitudinal cohort linked to injury claims data [Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC)]. She is also a clinical teaching assistant for postgraduates at the University of Victoria. She is a medical doctor trained and registered in her country of origin, Eritrea.
