Nelson is also an Honorary Lecturer in the Health Systems Department in the School of Population Health at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland. He is a trained Medical Doctor with a Master's degree in Business Administration and PhD in Health Sciences. Nelson has worked for over 20 years developing specialist skills in clinical and data governance, strategic leadership, operational and financial management of health services, quality assurance, and research and evaluation skills. He is committed to and passionate about improving health care systems, patient safety and patient experience.
Over the past five years, Nelson has focused his academic interest on data management, research data scientist, data analysis, data mining, business intelligence, healthcare data and research risk management. He enjoys working in multidisciplinary teams, contributing to design, implementation and data analysis for complex research in primary and secondary care, diabetes and vaccines. Currently, he is responsible for providing clinical support and data management across different COVID-19 vaccine projects, alignment with functional clinical data management, business strategy and priorities.
